Montgomery College and University of Maryland Global Campus Announce Dual Admission Program

New Program Streamlines Associate's to Bachelor's Pathway

Montgomery College (MC) and the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) announced a new dual admissions program in which students are simultaneously admitted to both Montgomery College and UMGC. Under the new program, Degree Destination: MC to UMGC, those students who complete an associate degree transfer credit seamlessly toward a bachelor’s degree at UMGC.

The two institutions announced the new program at a signing ceremony held on Montgomery College’s Central Services building in Rockville on September 18, 2024.

“This is an exciting opportunity for students in Maryland,” said Dr. Jermaine F. Williams, president of Montgomery College. “They can start at MC, unlock their potential in a supportive environment, and seamlessly continue their educational journey with UMGC. This is a great example of how we are providing tools and support to ensure students can complete their degrees successfully.”

The dual admission program complements UMGC’s existing Maryland Completion Scholarship program, which allows Maryland community college graduates to transfer to UMGC and earn a bachelor’s degree for $12,000 or less.

“This new program is another tangible sign of our two institutions’ commitment to student success and creating affordable pathways to a four-year degree,” said Gregory Fowler, president of UMGC. “Knowing from the start that you have already been accepted to UMGC and have a scholarship that reduces the cost of your education can provide great momentum toward completion.”

Benefits of dual admission include acceptance of all Montgomery College transfer credits; co-advising with UMGC advisors to ensure Montgomery College courses align with the chosen UMGC program; and access to UMGC’s lifetime career services and library resources, including research help, guides, and writing and citation tutorials. UMGC also waives the $50 application fee for undergraduate transfer students enrolled at Montgomery College.

UMGC has been recognized by U.S. News Short List as the top university in the nation for transfer students. UMGC enrolled more than 600 new transfers in fall 2023.

Even more, it has a 100 percent acceptance rate, compared with 65 percent for higher education as a whole.
