MCTV Earns Emmy Nomination, 14 Communicator Awards and 14 Telly Awards

Montgomery College Television (MCTV) staff won multiple awards for work produced in 2023, including 14 Telly Awards, 14 Communicator Awards, and a nomination for the prestigious Emmy award.

MCTV earned an Emmy nomination for "I Am MC" new window in the Education/Schools category for short-form content. Daniel Szwerc served as producer, videographer and editor, with additional support from Dan Rankin, Peter Pereyra, Carolina Galeano, and Andre Anderson. The nomination comes from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) National Capital Chesapeake Region. The 66th Capital Emmy Awards took place on June 22 at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

The Telly Awards annually showcase the best work created within television and across video, for all screens. Receiving over 12,000 entries globally from six continents and all 50 states, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world. Most of the Telly Awards earned this year went to staff, while one went to MCTV student intern Gracie Rosenbaum for her coverage of the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which takes place in Washington, D.C. annually. Rosenbaum and the entire MCTV student intern team were also recognized with an Award of Distinction by the Communicator Awards for a video series of their coverage of the festival last year. The students are Genevive Banaticla, Blue Leaf Von Muller, Giusseppe Gonzales-Hurtado, Pius Kitengie, and Anthony Rodriguez.

The Communicator Awards are dedicated to recognizing excellence, effectiveness, and innovation across all areas of communication.

They are innovative professionals who are dedicated to producing high-quality multimedia content while providing daily training and mentoring to talented MC students,” said Melissa Pace, MCTV managing director. “These impressive students go on to work immediately in the field or transfer to four-year universities to finish their bachelor's degree. Every member of our team contributed in some way to the awards and recognition received this year, but our true passion - and ultimate reward - is seeing MCTV students succeed.”    

Established in 1986, MCTV is a state-of-the-art media operation located on the Rockville Campus that provides a 24/7 cable channel and professional production services for the Montgomery College community. It aims to reach underrepresented populations and help them realize how Montgomery College opportunities can change their lives for the better. It also offers a dynamic television production experience to students enrolled in MC’s Media Arts Technologies courses, and other related programs at the College.
