Montgomery College Wins $562,500 Campus Safety Program Grant

Montgomery College (MC) has received a major campus safety grant provided through the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). The purpose of the Campus Safety Grant Program is to fund infrastructure improvements on Maryland campuses.

The MC public safety team, led by Adam Reid, director of public safety, health and emergency management, is overseeing the project. Grant funding will be used to provide a security system for the new East County Education Center, to purchase several public safety vehicles that will be deployed across the institution, and the install state-of-the-art video surveillance cameras that will augment current security coverage.

Funds from the program total $562,500, and will be expended during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. These are one-time purchases.

"This grant comes at an important moment for the College," said Sherwin Collette, the College's senior vice president for administration and finance. "As we expand our reach across the county, the addition of a security system at the East County Education Center, as well as new service vehicles, and video cameras, means that we will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of our College community.”
