Questions
Invite them to join you for a breakout room conversation in Zoom Channel Zero. Channel Zero is your virtual lounge, hosted and open all day.
Yes, the virtual host/moderator will help with that.
Yes, although we are hoping that *all* presenters will upload digital copies of their presentations and handouts ahead of time, it is always a good idea to have your own materials on hand.
To make your video accessible and understandable to attendees, it should include captions that accurately match the words spoken during the digital story. We realize there may be reasons a presenter is unable to update a video with captions in time for their presentation, but we encourage you to make the effort if possible.
Our conference accessibility guidelines document (PDF, ) offers some suggestions. Additionally since many presenters are planning to post or share videos from YouTube, here are resources on How to add closed captions in YouTubenew window.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that the spirit of the pecha kucha format is to help you condense your research presentation into a 7-minute length, delivered in a comfortable (not overly rushed) speaking voice, with some informative images. If you achieve that, you are good to go!
No, the 11th International Digital Storytelling Conference is not a hybrid experience. Due to the complex nature of multiple venues as well as a lack of sufficient hybrid technology, the conference committee determined it would be impossible to deliver the conference in a hybrid mode. Our keynote presentations will either be recorded and available later. As much as possible, the virtual day presentations will be recorded and shared later. Individual presenters are welcomed to bring virtual co-presenters into their presentations; however, the in-person presenter needs to set up the Zoom or other virtual space before their scheduled session; we reserve the right for session chairs to ask presenters to move on with the presentation if they are unable to connect with their virtual co-presenters for whatever reason. Zoom rooms will not be provided for the in-person conference days.
Yes, you are welcome to do so, and then upload the recording to the conference planners using this linknew window. Presenters of Pecha Kuchas and academic papers may find this especially helpful for remaining within their time limits (7 minutes for Pecha Kucha, 15 minutes for academic papers). Pre-recording also gives you more flexibility to interact with the audience live via Zoom chat and during the question and answer period at the end of the session.
The Virtual Conference is live in Zoom from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (0900 - 1730) in the Eastern time zone (Baltimore, Maryland, USA).
Zoom links will be emailed to registered conference participants during the week of the conference.
Some sessions will be recorded and available after the conference, depending on presenter consent and technical resources. To experience the virtual sessions of your choice, be sure to register and attend the live event.
Yes, every session will have a virtual host who will serve as your session moderator.
