The Rockville campus English and Reading Department offers a wide variety of classes, on campus and online. Register for recommended online orientation via Zoom for ENGL 101, 102 and 103.

We offer all English and Reading classes in three content areas: college reading and composition; professional writing; and literature.

The credit-level composition courses provide comprehensive instruction in essay writing, critical thinking, research, and argumentation.

Professional writing courses teach technical report writing and editing as well as grammar, fiction writing and poetry writing.

Literature courses not only teach the basics of close reading and analysis, but also encourage students to learn about cultures, history and social issues.

We also offer Integrated English  Reading and Writing (IERW) classes for native English-speakers who need to prepare for college-level work.

The department offers a technical writing certificate on the Germantown campus. The program is designed for those already employed in technical, or related, positions seeking to upgrade skills or change career paths.

Many of our classes satisfy General Education requirements for graduation and transfer.

Department offices are located in MT 526, the Macklin Tower Building. Faculty offices are spread over the campus. Check the faculty link for more information about that.
