The Monday Minute with Dr. Williams

Monday Minute

November 25, 2024

With a shortened week upon us, I encourage you to enjoy this time to rest and rejuvenate. Whether you are gathering with family, friends, or simply enjoying a moment of quiet, I hope you can reflect on the strengths and passion you bring to our College community—whether as a student, faculty member, or staff member. It is our diverse life experiences and unique talents that make our community so special. I am deeply grateful for the contributions each of you makes toward advancing our shared values and mission.

Caring Faculty and Staff among Valuable Feedback Students Share

I extend heartfelt thanks to the 1,246 students who took part in our recent Media Preferences survey. I was excited to see in the survey resultsnew window that nearly 90% of respondents said they would recommend MC to friends or family, with many highlighting their appreciation for MC’s quality education and caring faculty and staff! We are reviewing your feedback closely and exploring meaningful improvements to social media, email, texting, and support services communications. Your constructive insights on understanding financial aid, navigating administrative processes, and offering more timely guidance and support are critical to guiding our next steps. Thank you again for your participation.

MBI Café Serves up Experience and Leadership

I had the pleasure of visiting the Macklin Business Institutenew window (MBI) Café and preparing drinks with MC student and café barista Seynabou Sylla. As part of the prestigious MBI Honors Program, Seynabou benefits from a scholarship, an outstanding business education, and hands-on experience running the student café on the Rockville Campus. The MBI Honors Program rivals opportunities at top business schools across the country, offering exceptional experiential learning and transfer opportunities. The MBI Café is a vibrant example of learning in action. I hope you enjoy our latest episode of Backpacks on the Go!

International Professional Development Opportunities Open

Faculty interested in expanding their students’ cultural horizons are encouraged to apply for the Overseas Faculty Development Seminarsnew window, funded by the U.S. State Department and U.S. Department of Education. Over the past seven years, eight MC faculty members have been selected for these prestigious awards from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. These seminars, held during winter break, provide an exciting opportunity to gain international experience and enhance curricula with a global perspective. By fostering critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills, we prepare students to navigate and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. This is a remarkable opportunity to nurture transnational civic engagement and deepen the impact of our teaching.
