Innovate to Drive Equitable Access and Success (IDEAS)

A Conversation with Robert Espinoza

On April 16, 2024, Montgomery College President Jermaine F. Williams had a conversation with Robert Espinoza, the chief executive officer of the National Skills Coalition, which fights for a national commitment to inclusive, high-quality skills training so that more people have access to a better life, and more local businesses see sustained growth.

Mr. Espinoza is a prominent advocate in the fields of workforce, aging, and caregiving, where he spent 25 years advancing public policy around these and other pressing societal issues. He brings deep commitments to racial equity and anti-poverty strategies to his roles in policy, organizing, and alliance building. His commitment to creating economic mobility and equality of opportunity for all people intersects powerfully with the College’s Transformational Aspirations—advancing access, completion, and post-completion success. Mr. Espinoza helps to shape thought-leadership around issues of social justice through participation at the Brookings Institution, the National Academy of Social Insurance, the FrameWorks Institute, and the American Society on Aging. Mr. Espinoza hosts a widely syndicated podcast—A Question of Care™—exploring the many challenges facing our country’s caregiving system.

About the IDEAS Series

The 2024 Innovate to Drive Equitable Access and Success (IDEAS) series will feature conversations with thought leaders in business, politics, education, and journalism. The series will examine how access, completion, and post-completion success serve to empower communities to transformative heights and the vital roles that community partners play in these dynamics. We will explore the values and structures essential to maximizing every person’s potential and to advancing a shared sense of the public good.
