You will gain a better understanding of how you can redesign you courses using open educational resources (OERs) that engage, connect, and support student learning.

Exploring Decolonization of the Curriculum at Montgomery College: A Path Forward

Join us for an engaging and transformative workshop designed for educators, administrators, and curriculum developers at Montgomery College. This workshop explores the critical process of decolonizing the curriculum, shedding light on the importance of inclusivity, diversity, and equity in educational content and pedagogy. As part of our commitment to fostering change beyond MC, we will also introduce participants to the development of a Pressbooks resource. This open educational resource (OER) is intended to serve as a guide for other institutions looking to embark on their decolonization journey, offering insights, strategies, and practical steps taken by MC under an institutional grant awarded by the Maryland Open Source Textbook (MOST) initiative.

The Inclusive Curriculum: A Portal to Opportunities

An inclusive curriculum is an approach to education that provides equal opportunities and support for all students, regardless of their background, abilities, or differences. The goal of an inclusive curriculum is to create a learning environment that recognizes and respects diversity, promotes equity, and ensures that all students have access to engaging educational opportunities. It intentionally integrates perspectives that broaden and enrich the curriculum both within specific assignments and throughout the course. This approach offers students opportunities to interact with diverse viewpoints, preparing them for an array of academic and professional settings. UN SDG Open Pedagogy Fellowship Information Session

Open education resources (OERs) increase equitable access to education and empower students in the learning process. More broadly, open pedagogy places students at the center of that learning process in a more engaging, authentic, and collaborative environment. Montgomery College, along with more than 10 institutional partners around the world, are committed to supporting global justice through an international partnership in which faculty work in cross-institutional, interdisciplinary teams to maximize global impact. All Together Now! Creating OER in Harmony with Students and Generative AI

Whether you are an advocate or skeptic of Artificial Intelligence, it is worthwhile to consider how to leverage its potential for teaching and learning. One way to do this is to invite students as co-creators who not only contribute their own knowledge to the curriculum but also critically explore the use of generative AI to enhance course materials. This session will propose strategies to balance the instructor’s disciplinary expertise, student experiences, and generative AI to support open pedagogy.

Empowering Education with Pressbooks at Montgomery College: Innovations in OER

Join us during Open Education Week for an interactive session spotlighting the transformative role of Pressbooks in the creation of Open Educational Resources (OER). This session will feature two MC educators who have harnessed the power of Pressbooks to develop unique educational materials. The session will kick off with an introduction to Pressbooks, highlighting its versatility and effectiveness in creating diverse and accessible OERs. Presenters will then share the different ways that Pressbooks have been incorporated in their courses, which range from the creation of original content to the modification of existing resources to enhance learning experiences. A Q&A segment will follow, allowing attendees to engage directly with the panelists, gaining deeper insights into their experiences and the impactful possibilities of using Pressbooks in educational contexts.
