Biography
Dr. Michael Mills is the Associate Senior Vice President of Equitable Access and Student Success for the Office of E-Learning, Innovation and Teaching Excellence (ELITE) at Montgomery College. He has been with Montgomery College since 2009. Dr. Mills oversees faculty and staff professional development as well as the distance education program and libraries. His focus is providing faculty and staff with the professional development necessary to positively impact student success, and on using open educational resources to reduce the cost of education for students.
Prior to joining Montgomery College, Dr. Michael Mills had 18 years of experience at the Delaware Technical and Community College. He served as DTCC’s Director of Distance Learning beginning in 2001. Before that, Dr. Mills was a full-time Education Technology faculty member and the Communications Department Chair. He began teaching online in 1998.
Dr. Mills holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Technology and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Adult Education from the University of Delaware. He also has a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Maryland.

Biography
Shinta Hernandez, Ph.D. is the Dean of MC Online and Academic Support at Montgomery College (MC), providing leadership in online education, open education, and the Digital Learning Center. From the time she started at MC in January 2007, she has helped to advance work in open education and open pedagogy, social justice and equity, inclusive curriculum, faculty professional development, international collaborations, online education, and the social science disciplines.
Previously, Dr. Hernandez served as the department chair of sociology, anthropology, and criminal justice and professor of sociology at MC. She also served on the leadership team of the Achieving the Dream (ATD) Student Success Network. She is the co-founder and co-developer of two MC faculty fellowships centered on online education and open education, including the global award-winning United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Fellowship, which has grown to 13 institutional partners across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia. She also has experience in external leadership roles with the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER), Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), MarylandOnline Leadership Institute (MOLLI), and the Maryland Chief Officers of Online Learning (COOL).
Dr. Hernandez received her B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University, M.P.P. in Social Policy from Georgetown University, and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park. She was recently awarded the Diversity in Business Award by the Washington Business Journal (2024) and by Women We Admire as Top 50 Women Leaders in Maryland (2022). She was also awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and Advising from MC in 2017 and the Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) in 2018.

Biography
Paul D. Miller has extensive experience in STEM instruction; K-12 curriculum development; instructional design and teaching methodologies; project evaluation; inclusive professional learning/development; instructional technology integration; instructional systems development; program implementation fidelity and evaluation; and over $34 million in federal and state grant facilitation and management. He has worked with school systems in 28 states and presented internationally at conferences on cooperative learning models, scaling programs for enhanced math achievement, effective leadership coaching practices, professional development, competency-based learning, and technology integration to support teaching and learning.
From 2007 to 2018, Dr. Miller worked at the Success for All Foundation and Johns Hopkins University, where he led the development of technology-based learning materials (for reading and mathematics), piloted web-based professional development and personalized learning systems, developed training workshops for teachers and administrators, and managed teams to develop early childhood program materials in partnership with Sesame Workshop, Inc.
Before joining Montgomery College, Dr. Miller has served as Director of Strategic Operations/Section Chief for Monitoring and Accountability for the Maryland State Department of Education’s Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services, where he led the design and development of a statewide micro-credentialing program and provided professional development support for the integration of specially designed instruction within an inclusive environment to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Dr. Miller holds an Ed.D. with a focus on Instructional Design for Online Teaching and Learning from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. in Instructional Systems Development from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Biography
Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez began her career at Montgomery College in 2005 as an adjunct professor, becoming a full-time faculty member in 2008. In 2017, she was appointed as the coordinator of the early childhood program, becoming the collegewide senior director for early childhood education programs in 2020 and Acting Dean of Education and Social Sciences in 2022.
Through her work in early childhood education, she increased enrollment through extensive outreach, wrote successful grants (which raised $2 million) supporting students at no cost to them, and developed the fully online applied science degree, reducing the time to a degree significantly for students. She collaborated and supported WDCE with developing courses and curriculum review to add grant and other programmatic needs, ensuring quality and facilitating the integration of credit and noncredit content and flow. Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez has developed strong relationships with the community and provides leadership coordinating the regional early childhood education professional continuing education and community engagements events, including the Regional Early Childhood Education Summit, Statewide Early Childhood Education Symposium, and countywide early childhood education events.
Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez has served on numerous collegewide committees, including co-chairing one of the standards for Middle States accreditation and participating in the 2022 cohort of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges LEADERS Institute. Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez was awarded the MC Faculty Outstanding Service Award in 2015 and the NISOD of Excellence Award in 2016. Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez was also the recipient of the American Association of Community College Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty designation for 2018 and was awarded the Association of Community College Trustee (ACCT) 2019 Northeast Region Faculty Member Award.
Dr. Pruneda-Hernandez earned a doctorate of education from Walden University, a master of science in education from Nova Southeastern University, and a bachelor of arts in Spanish from the University of North Florida.

Bio
Suzette Spencer is the Director of Library and Information Services at Montgomery College. Her 25-year career in public and academic libraries has been dedicated to serving students, faculty, and staff, with a committed focus to lifelong learning opportunities for community users. She provides vision and direction for the Montgomery College Library’s three-campus library system, as well as our virtual presence. Prior to Montgomery College, Ms. Spencer served as Associate Dean of Library Services and Interim Associate Dean of Library Access and Discovery at Broward College in south Florida. Ms. Spencer and the library team are proud to be a teaching and learning partner with college peers, the academic departments, and external community stakeholders.
Ms. Spencer earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and Finance
from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and her Master’s degree in Information
and Library Science from Pratt Institute in New York City, New York.

Biography
Nghi Nguyen is a skilled Web and Multimedia Specialist with over 16 years of experience at Montgomery College, where he develops and oversees content for the Office of E-Learning, Innovation, and Teaching Excellence (ELITE). He is adept at aligning content with institutional standards, ensuring ADA compliance, and managing multiple projects with minimal supervision.He brings expertise in web design, project management, and the development of communication strategies across various formats. Nghi holds a Master’s degree in Distance Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication-Journalism from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
He is proficient in several web development tools and software, including Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and JavaScript, and are fluent in both English and Vietnamese..

Biography
Christine Crefton began her journey at Montgomery College in January 2009 serving
as the Faculty Outreach Librarian before becoming the Campus Library Manager at the
Rockville campus library; instituting changes that focused on student needs, staff
morale, relationship building, and the overall culture of the campus library.
Currently serving as a resource and support person for projects and programs at the
college including M.O.S.T. Commons, Microcredentials, Pressbooks, UN SDG Open Pedagogy Fellowship, and facilitating various Professional Development opportunities such as the 2020-2021 Presidential Innovation Leadership Institute. With many years of experience working in the private sector, government, and in
academic and public library settings, she brings her passion for transformational
leadership, courageous visioning, and identifying the strengths and motivations of
individuals to maximize employee engagement and help lead teams through change to
her position in the Office of E-learning, Innovation, and Teaching Excellence.
Christine is a Doctor of Education, earning the degree from Drexel University’s Educational
Leadership and Management program with a concentration in Organization Development
and Adult Learning. She has a Master’s degree in Library Science and Information Systems
from Drexel and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University in Philadelphia,
PA majoring in Political Science with a minor in Communications.

Biography
Tom Cantu is an Instructional Designer in the Office of E-Learning, Innovation, and Teaching Excellence (ELITE).Since 1998, he has been an Instructional Designer in higher education guiding professors in planning and building online and blended courses consulting with faculty on ways to integrate web technologies into their teaching.
He has a Master's Degree in Instructional Systems Development from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Tom has been at Montgomery College since 2002.

Bio
Megan Calvert has over 20 years of experience in education focusing on instruction, curriculum design, and teacher professional development. She has worked in at the college since 2009 as an Adult ESOL Instructor and Educational Specialist in Workforce Development and Continuing Education. Currently, she focuses on supporting instructors through the Fundamentals of Teaching Initiative and supporting staff and faculty in learning Microsoft Office.Previously, Megan served as a Fulbright-sponsored teaching assistant in France, an AmeriCorps volunteer at the International Rescue Committee, a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan, and a US State Department-sponsored English Language Fellow in Turkey. She earned a BA in French and Spanish from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from American University in Washington, DC.

Biography
Over 20 years of professional experience working internationally, specializing in human resources, global leadership and collaboration, organizational behavior and cross-cultural competency development.Richard works closely with Fons Trompenaars and senior principals of the THT management consulting group. He is an Intercultural Awareness Profile licensee and is certified to deliver exclusive training and consulting in the form of cultural research, digital learning tools (e-books and APPs) and applied theory. His focus is on developing transcultural effectiveness for teams and individuals. Richard is also certified in Myers Briggs, e-Coaching and Crucial Conversations.
Having worked in Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Dubai, the UK and the USA, Richard’s professional experience and interests include intercultural competency awareness and leadership development, values to behavior workshops, team charter creation with in-tact teams, coaching and consulting.
At MC, Richard is directly responsible for The Global Supervisor cohort and the Change Management Learning Pathway, and is proud to deliver some training in the MC Management and Tapestry cohorts.
Richard is a Canadian national (and, perhaps not surprisingly, an avid ice hockey player) who earned a Master degree at the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University, where he met his future wife. Together they have three tri-lingual children, none of whom play hockey.

Bio
Anna Donohoe is an Instructional Designer in the Office of E-Learning, Innovation,
and Teaching Excellence (ELITE). She joined Montgomery College in 2021 and participates in
a range of college initiatives, including MCRPA, Governance, and MC Pride & Allies. Her areas of expertise include adult education, computational linguistics, technology
training, teaching English as a Second Language, and curriculum development.
Anna has an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, a BA
in Linguistics from Carnegie Mellon University, and a TESOL certification, as well
as experience in software user testing, nonprofit IT support, linguistics research,
and program management. She speaks three languages and is proud to be the child and
great grandchild of immigrants to the United States.

Cynthia Mauris coordinates the Leadership Development Institute and MC Management
