ENGL 228: Survey of Latino/a/x Literature in the United States

What does it mean to be Latino/a/x in the United States? In this course, we will uncover the struggles and the triumphs of Latino/a/x Americans through the experiences of Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban, Mexican, Salvadorean American authors and more. Journey through the words of writers such as Julia Alvarez, Junot Diaz, Esmeralda Santiago, Elizabeth Acevedo, Julia de Burgos, Jose B. Gonzalez and others.

This course is fully online (no Zoom meetings) and is a Z-course (no text purchases required). We will be analyzing readings each week to discuss universal themes that we all experience through a Latinx lens, including coming of age, feeling like an outsider, defying the odds, generational conflict, and clashing with one's heritage.

This course fulfills the Humanities distribution and Global Cultural Perspectives requirements.
