The Community-Informed Policing Program is a 30-hour educational program presented to Montgomery County police officers newly graduated from the Public Service Training Academy. The curriculum offers the officers tools to help navigate a rapidly changing and diverse social landscape in policing. Officers have an opportunity to explore those topics key to healing the relationship between law enforcement and the most vulnerable communities served.
The program covers the following areas: policing history; racial equity and social justice; health and wellness; active listening and conflict resolution; community policing; and civic engagement. Facilitation is from a diverse cross-section of Montgomery College faculty from several disciplines--Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, and English and Reading—with guest speakers from the local community.
