The Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus English and Reading Department offers a wide variety of classes, on campus and online. Register for recommended online orientation via Zoom for ENGL 101, 102 and 103.
We are home to two Professors of the Year at the state and national level, and we are home to the campus' Sligo Journal.
The departments offers all English and Reading classes in three content areas: college composition; professional writing; and literature.
The credit-level composition courses provide comprehensive instruction in essay writing, critical thinking, research, and argumentation.
Professional writing courses teach technical report writing and editing as well as grammar, fiction writing and poetry writing.
Our rotation of literature offerings, reflecting our faculty’s areas of expertise, provides ample options for students to fulfill their general education arts and humanities requirements.
We also offer Integrated English Reading and Writing (IERW) classes for native English-speakers who need to prepare for college-level work.
The department offers a technical writing certificate on the Germantown campus. The program is designed for those already employed in technical, or related, positions seeking to upgrade skills or change career paths.
Many of our classes satisfy General Education requirements for graduation and transfer.
Takoma Park’s smaller size makes us feel like family. We regard teaching you as a privilege, and we look forward to supporting you to achieve your goals and to delighting in your success. Our office is located in P3, Suite 122, the Pavilion #3 building.
