Dr. Michael Mills

Associate Senior Vice President of Equitable Access and Student Success

Dr. Michael Mills leads Montgomery College programs and initiatives aimed at providing students with the academic support tools they need to be successful, regardless whether that course is taken in a virtual format or on-campus.  In his role as the Associate Senior Vice President who oversees the Library, learning centers and the Achieving the Promise Academy, Dr. Mills focuses on ensuring academic support is aligned with student success. He also focuses on equitable access through MC Online, the College’s virtual campus, ensuring that students who want to continue their educational journey through online and remote classes are able to do so with the same level of academic support as on-campus students. Dr. Mills also leads the College’s open educational resource initiative MC Open, which emphasizes reducing the cost of education through the use of free digital materials.

In addition to the student-focused initiatives, Dr. Mills oversees the Office of E-Learning, Innovation and Teaching Excellence, which includes staff and faculty professional development, the Blackboard Learning Management System, micro-credentials, and alternative credentials and pathways.

In an ever-changing higher education landscape, it is important that all employees are equipped with the skills necessary to help students reach their goals. This includes adjunct faculty through the Part-time Faculty Institute for Engagement and Support.

Dr. Mills earned his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Delaware with a concentration on educational leadership.  His master’s degree, also from the University of Delaware, focused on educational technology.  Dr. Mills earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland College Park.
